The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around – and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever.
What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?
The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries – including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?
I DID NOT PREPARE TO FEEL THIS MUCH LOVE!!!
I FEEL ALL THE LOVE FOR ANYTHING EVER IN THIS ENTIRE BOOK!!
This was my first Laini Taylor book (although, I have had her The Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy on my shelf for a while *growling emits from the TBR*) and I think it is safe to say that I was a fool for not picking up her books for such a long time.
The world in Strange the Dreamer was built and described so lovingly (whether this was Laini Taylor’s writing or just Lazlo’s beautiful take on the world I don’t know, but I love it). Everywhere the characters went was fleshed out so well that it felt like you could visit these places they seemed so real.
I am seriously intrigued by the foods in Weep?? I imagine that some streets in Weep (or all the streets…. the whole of Weep) smells like cooking pastries or baking bread. I’ve associated the smell of baking to Weep now?? I hope Weep actually smells like this?? I want to live there and smell cooking pastries everyday!! *gasp* I want a Strange the Dreamer Cookbook, with recipes for things like Blood Candy and what not from the book!!!
I have really fallen in love with Laini Taylor’s writing (even though I have only read this one book by her….. I fall in love quickly apparently?) And I think it’s safe to say that I will 100000% most definitely buy and devour (maybe not eat… but the covers are beautiful enough that I want to eat them… but I won’t) everything Laini Taylor writes. Her writing is so lyrical?? And I am ashamed I hadn’t read anything by her until now. BUT I LIVE IN THE DARK REALM NO MORE MY FRIENDS!!! I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!!
This book was everything I was expecting it to be and more, and my heart feels happy….. BUT THAT ENDING HURT MY POOR UNSUSPECTING HEART!!! I WAS JUST INNOCENTLY STROLLING AROUND IN THIS STORY DOING SOME SIGHTSEEING AND THEN THIS!!!!! THIS PAIIIIINN!!!!
But I loved it none the less!
I feel like if I had to describe this book in one word, Beautiful, would fit it perfectly.
Now, I’m going to go scream at everyone I see, to read this book.
I gave this book a 5 out of 5 Stars!!!
Have you read Strange the Dreamer?? Did you love it?? Was your heart ripped out and torn to shreds during your peaceful sightseeing adventure too??
