So, we all know hyped books when we see them, ’cause they are all over the place. But what about the other books? The ones that sound sooo friggin’ great? The ones that could very easily become anyone’s new favourite book? The ones that allow us to find other authors who’s writing styles and stories could be exactly what we need in any particular moment? The ones that very well deserve just as much hype?
I tend to spend a lot of my free time on Amazon. Not usually doing anything in particular. Just browsing… because I love finding new books and making lists of these new books (no matter the weight my TBR gradually gains to crush me with). Through this I tend to venture off deep in the trenches of books listed on Amazon and I find books that I have not seen, or heard of before….. probably ’cause they’ve been living in a trench…
Here is a list of 5 books that I found, that I am really, super-duper, mega ready to just devour…… like a cake… oooooo CAKE!!!!!
1) The Stars Never Rise (Wells of Souls Series)- Rachel Vincent
There’s no turning back…
In the town of New Temperance, souls are in short supply and Nina should be worrying about protecting hers. Yet she’s too busy trying to keep her sister Mellie safe.
When Nina discovers that Mellie is keeping a secret that threatens their existence, she’ll do anything to protect her. Because in New Temperance, sins are prosecuted as crimes by the brutal church.
To keep them both alive, Nina will need to trust Finn, a mysterious fugitive who has already saved her life once. Wanted by the church and hunted by dark forces, Nina knows she needs Finn and his group of rogue friends.
But what do they need from her in return?
This. Sounds. Great. I wanna know all the stuffs…. What is the grand secret that appears to be the main focus of the book? What makes it so bad that they turn to others for help?Who is Finn and his rogue friends? What do they do that make them roguish?? I need to know..
Plus, I seem to be enjoying books that involve a lot of moving around lately… maybe it’s because of the Angelfall trilogy…. that had a lot of moving around and it was great!
2) Angelfire – Courtney Allison Moulton
First there are nightmares. Then come the memories. Now she must hunt.
Ellie can’t shake the terrifying dreams about monstrous creatures that are hunting her, killing her. Then she meets Will and feels on the verge of remembering something just beyond her grasp. His attention is intense and romantic, and Ellie feels like her soul has known him for centuries. When they meet on a dark street at midnight, Will awakens Ellie’s power, and she knows that she can fight the creatures that stalk her in the grim darkness. Will holds the key to Ellie’s memories, whole lifetimes of them, and she can no longer pretend anything was just a dream.
Her role is to hunt and kill the reapers that prey on human souls. In order to survive, she must also hunt for the secrets of her past lives, the dangerous and ancient battle of the angels and the Fallen, and truths that may be too frightening to remember.
I found this one by sheer luck… because I was on Amazon for about four hours and as I was about to close it…. this one caught my eye… I bought the whole trilogy… I became overwhelmed with the need to have this book in my life.
First and foremost… it kinda sounds shadowhuntery…with the hunting and killing in secret to protect the unsuspecting humans. And Will…… don’t make me cry again….. Plus Angels. Plus Monsters. Plus, I’m kinda really interested in seeing how this reincarnation concept is written. I have yet to read a book that involves reincarnation, especially the kind where said reincarnated person remembers stuff from before…
It sounds friggin’ great… that’s all I have to say… I’m too enthusiastic with this book… every time I see it on my bookshelf…. I get a little giddy despite not having read it yet… I think my expectation for this book are growing… which may not be a good thing…. I should pick it up soon.
3) Demons at Deadnight (Divinicus Nex Chronicles) – A & E Kirk
For seventeen-year-old Aurora Lahey, survival is a lifestyle. DEMONIC DESTINY Aurora has the crappiest superpower on the planet. And it’s just unleashed a hit squad from hell. Demons are on the hunt, salivating to carve her carcass into confetti. CHARISMATIC KILLERS The Hex Boys—mysterious, hunky, and notorious for their trails of destruction—have the answers Aurora needs to survive. But their overload of deadly secrets and suspicious motives makes trusting them a potentially fatal move. LETHAL ALLIES The battle to save her family, herself, and stop demonic domination may cost Aurora everything worth living for, and force her to reveal her own dark secrets. But no worries. She needs the Hex Boys to pull this off, and, chances are, teaming up with these guys will get her killed anyway.
I found this bad boy a few years ago. I recently bought it because past me wrote it down and scribbled a very bold line underneath… it seemed I thought it was important 😮
Quick Fun Fact; A & E Kirk are a mother + daughter writing team… I think it would be real interesting to see what the writing is like… ’cause sometimes dual authors can be a bit…. choppy? If that makes sense?
This one also has several good features. Demons. Secret Superpowers. Charismatic Killers. Constant looming and ever present threat of death… it sounds dark and devious… and I want it all.
I also remember seeing a review for it somewhere and there was screeching involved… I think they were trying to convey that the book was amazing and that they loved it more that words could express… at least…. that’s what I’m hoping…
Because that paperback was expensive as hell…. did you get my pun?…… Hell….. Demons… Well……I made myself laugh a little bit… *sobs alone*
4) Inkmage (A Fire Beneath the Skin Trilogy)- Victor Gischler
In the first instalment of the A Fire Beneath the Skin trilogy, the city of Klaar has never fallen. No enemy has ever made it across the Long Bridge or penetrated the city’s mighty walls. Even when a powerful invading army shows up at the gates, the duke and his daughter, Rina Veraiin, are certain that it poses little threat.
But they are cruelly betrayed from within and, in a horrific spasm of violence, the city is brought to its knees.
With the help of her bodyguard, Kork, the battle-trained young Rina narrowly escapes the slaughter and makes her way to the lair of an ancient sorcerer—the Ink Mage—who gifts her with a strange, beautiful set of magical tattoos.
Now a duchess in exile, Rina sets out on a quest to reclaim what is rightfully hers, aided by a motley assortment of followers who will help her in her cause—some for noble reasons and others for their own dark purposes.
With the enemy’s agents nipping at her heels, Rina must learn to harness her new and startling magical powers if she is to assert her rightful place as ruler of Klaar.
Ok. So. Truth be told. I have two reasons for actually buying this in physical form. 1; I had a gift card and this was fairly cheap ( I couldn’t resist the steeeeeaaaal) . 2; I had just finished re-watching the entirety of BBC’s Merlin…. again… I was upset and this book kind of gave me Merlinish vibes with the whole… some one evil has taken over the kingdom… and the rightful heir muST RECLAIM THEIR HOMELAND!
No other reasons needed to want to read this book.
5) Enchantress (The Evermen Saga)- James Maxwell
An empire divided by magic. A nation on the brink of rebellion.
After losing their parents in the last doomed uprising, two siblings will find themselves at the center of an epic struggle for power.
When Ella witnesses an enchanter saving her brother’s life, she knows what she wants to be. But the elite Academy expects tuition fees and knowledge. Meanwhile her brother, Miro, dreams of becoming one of the world’s finest swordsmen, wielding his nation’s powerful enchanted weapons in defence of his homeland.
After Miro departs for war, the void he leaves in Ella’s life is filled by a mysterious foreigner, Killian. But Killian has a secret, and Ella’s actions will determine the fate of her brother, her homeland, and the world.
- The cover is beautiful!
- There is magic (Enchanters) involved.
- I really like cloaks and capes… there is a cloak/cape wearing person on the cover… I hope there are cloaks/capes involved.
This seems like it would be one of the more heavier reads, I feel like there may be a lot of world building… and rightfully so.
There are four books in this saga, all of which are similar in their cover designs (thank you whoever designed them 😀 ) with the super pretty border, that probably actually means something… Will we ever know??
The books are all equally as large as each other and the font is a decent size… I might wait for a week where I don’t have plans… and then I’ll binge read it… IT’S THE ONLY WAYYYYYYY!
Not really but I’d like to become immersed in the world without life distractions…
Those are five books that I found on my deep dives into the archives of Amazon… ( I like the word archives… it’s really nice) There are of course so many more… some I know about…. some I don’t know about… Do you know any of these hidden gems? Do you know of any other ‘Hidden Gems’ that you think should get more love? If so feel free to let me know!
I just realised that the books on this list (and on my bookshelves for that matter) contain some kind of romance or magic… one or the other… or both…. both is pretty great.
Till’ next time 😀
Good Night. Or Morning ❤
