The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater – Book Review

*prolonged screeching*

Why did I wait so long to start reading this series?

Thank you to everyone who recommended this series and screamed at me to read it! I love you all!

I’m so obsessed. Someone stop me. but also don’t. I haven’t even finished the series. I never want to finish but I also can’t stop reading! T . T

Okay, so I love magical realism but now I REALLY love magical realism. I love how all our precious characters saw literal magic. With their own eyes, in person. But then they just all pile into Gansey’s car like “Whatever we got homework to do. We’ll solve it laterz.”

Most people would be spooked and like drop out of school because they were so spooked. Maybe become a little cray-cray and obsessively start trying to find the magic (or turn evil and try to find a way to harness the magic….. *disappointed stare at a certain character*)

But our little beans juggle real life and magic life. Bless them.

I also love the setting of the little town Henrietta, and the fact that a full house of psychics exists. And that they use their psychic powers to play games.

Blue: This little lady is so precious. Oh gosh. She’s so snappy and isn’t about to let rich people intimidate her. But she will make them her best friends and help them on a magical quest! I love her.

Gansey: A precious disaster son. The supreme adventurer who is so polite and might accidentally insult you without realising it. This boy needs a really long nap, like…. longer than Glendower’s.

Ronan: The bean. The angriest and most grumpy bean who is made entirely of snark. All bite and no bark. All his interactions with Chainsaw give me life. Chainsaw is an A+ character and a great influence on Ronan.

Adam: This boy also needs a nap. Like right now. He’s so smart and could probably beat everyone at that school, but he is also smol and deserves every cookie in the jar, okay?

Noah: *sobbing ensues* Noah’s story made me cry. So bad. I love him. He’s so precious and extremely relatable. I too like to play the “hide from all social gatherings unless unavoidable” game.

I LOVE the whole mystery and ley line mystery going on. I love how everything is connected. Like how Blue and Gansey are connected – leading her to help them on this great quest. But also…. they are connected in other ways.

Is it safe to ship? Should I be worried? I mean… It literally says on the cover of the book that there’s death….. I’m worried.

I’ve said it more than once and I’m going to say it again. Maggie Stiefvater’s writing is beautiful. It’s so easy to fall into the story and I will for sure read everything she writes. Everything in the story just seems so whimsical and captivating and before you know it you’ve read 100 pages and then the books finished and WHERE’S THE NEXT ONE?!?!?!?

Overall I rated The Raven Boys: 5 / 5 stars!

Let's talk

Have you read The Raven Boys? What did you love about it? Who was your favourite character? Let’s scream about the preciouses together!
