Tropes/Settings I Love To Read About In Books And Wish To See More Of

Today’s prompt is Bookish Wishes, with the idea that you create a list of books that you’d love to own so that the lovely reading community fairies can bless you! Which is an amazing idea! Like a bookish Christmas!

However…

I sat there trying to come up with my top ten MOST WANTED books…. I couldn’t do it..

HOW DO I CHOSE 10 FROM A LIST OF THOUSANDS!!!!

Also… looking at the list of books you don’t currently have while your unread TBR is in the same room as you is very dangerous. Don’t recommend. Started feeling like someone was watching me. And their intent was questionable.

SO!

Instead I decided for my own safety to do a list of things I love reading about in books but don’t see all that often!

Ancient Tombs Full of Secrets

NOW! Not book related but I am a hardcore Tomb Raider fan, I’m on my 4th playthrough of the Survivor trilogy – the announcement of the new game has me excited!!!!!

I love exploring, stories about exploring. Love all that DOUBLE when there’s treasure involved! not a pirate I swear!

I’ve read a few books where they go in and out of a tomb so fast that I get whiplash… and sad. THINK OF ALL THE TREASURES THAT COULD BE IN THERE!!! Not just the shiny stuff either!

Like, little pieces of daily life left behind by people from thousands of years ago or just beautiful craftmanship of the tomb itself! Couldn’t be me running in and out like that, I need to see everything!

A Forest That is Very Much Sentient and Listening and Gossiping About Yoooouuuuu

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater actually created this void in my soul for sentient forests.

I think just about everyone regard trees as guardians! Not hard to see why, but call me a tree enthusiast I think trees deserve more spotlight time!!

They don’t exactly talk in the Raven Cycle they give off vibes I guess you could say, but imagine if actual trees could talk??

“Why are you hugging me??”

“Because I love you!”

“Please get off. I don’t even know you.”

…

They would actually be sick of me!

The Big Bad Evil You Were Fighting Against This Whole Time Was Actually Your Friend

And the friend was definitely giggling every time you told them your plans to defeat… well… them!

It’s a betrayal that hurts to read but whheeeeeeeewwwww IS IT GOOD!

It’s one of those reveals that gets you closing the book and shooting up to your feet, hands on hips, to process.

The amount of times I’ve gotten out of bed because of a big reveal in a book. Can’t process all of that lying down!

A Character Having Deja Vu Most of the Book Only to Find Out it’s Because of a Time Loop OR Reincarnation

This one I LOVE! I think I’ve read ONE thing with this trope which feels like a crime!

The character wondering out loud if they’ve been to this place before or if they have met someone before and then another character >EVIL< is like “NOOOOO! COURSE NOT!!! YOU’VE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THIS BEFORE!” Turns to other evil characters “GET THEM AWAY FROM HERE BEFORE THEY FIND OUT!!”

If anyone knows anything with this trope in please send it my way! I’m starved for more!

Lone Soldier

When the MC is betrayed and/or needs to get something done and it’s safer/easier to do it solo, so they trek it alone!!! Nobody but themselves to depend on!

DOUBLE POINTS IF THEY ARE GOING OFF ALONE TO DO SNEAKY THINGS!!! YESSSSS TO BREAKING AND ENTERING! GO STEAL THAT MAGICAL ARTIFACT OR PAPERS WITH SECRETS IN THEM IN SOME CORRUPPT DUDES OFFICE!!!

But it’s also really interesting to read about our main characters going from fighting the problem from a place of relative comfort to having literally nothing. Nowhere to hide, no one to turn to and no super spaceship with huge cannons…

Every character could use a ship with cannons in all genres tbh! As a mood booster because ships are cool, or to be used to blast something to kingdom come. EVERYBODY IS HAPPIER WITH SHIPS WITH CANNONS!
