Top Ten Tuesday: The Ultimate List of Shame

So, I haven’t been very active blogging wise…. again. But I now have scheduled posts and everything. It’s all very exciting!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

Anywhoooo, today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is “Books You’d Mash Together”. But I am not very good at mashing things, I would break something. So, I have time traveled back before the dawn of time and found a previous Top Ten Tuesday topic to do instead. Because running away from challenges that stress me out is more my forte.

I have selected… *drum roll*  “Books that I just HAD to buy…… But they are still sitting on my bookshelf…. uread” ……. What can I say, I’m all about the Self-TBR shaming these days. I hope one day my listing of these books will irk me and I will have to read them, if only so I don’t include them on one of these lists ever again.

This makes sense, okay? It’ll work.

I have a lot of books that I’ve bought close to their release date…..  but they’ve been sitting on my bookshelf so long that there is now a natural spring created wholly from their tears.

I’ll go in order of shame. 10 being ashamed and 1 begin “You can banish me to an ancient realm filled with suffering and I would embrace my fate with my whole heart”

10) Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I have come to terms with this shame. I have the whole series on my shelf….. just waiting to be read. I will read them eventually, I know I will. But I know not to beat myself up about it, because I’ve been saying that I would read this series for years and I mean….. I haven’t died dramatically or anything so I think that means that this series is being patient with me????

9) Blood and Sand by C. V. Wyk

I bought this book when I discovered it even existed. I think I had just watched Pompeii (the movie with Kit Harrington which was pretty goooood) and I really wanted to read something that was gladiatory. So, I’ve had this book for a year or so now….. I had meant to read it when I bought it….. I WILL GET TO IT I SWEAR!!! (Watch me say that to all the books on this list and have an identical list next year XD)

8) Vicious by V. E. Schwab

The shame for this one is a little heavier. Once again it has been on my shelf for a long time and yet…. I haven’t read it. And now that the sequel Vengeful comes out this year (I think it is out in the US????) it’s like shame x45,000. I’VE HAD ALL THIS TIME!!!!! BUT NOOOOO! I HAD TO GO READ OTHER BOOKS!!!! Still really want to read it though.

7) Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

I kind of have an excuse for not reading this one right away??? I got it because it sounded really cool, like how many YA books do you know of that are focused on Goblins???(If you do know more let me know…. I love goblins) But then people had pretty mixed reviews about it. Some people like it, some thought it was just ok, and others just said it was boring? But I am holding out because everyone has different reading tastes so, I might end up loving it??

6) Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

When I heard about this book, I knew that I had to have it. I remember the second I had money to spend, the first book I searched for was this one. But I still haven’t read it. I think I’m going to try to finish reading it by the end of the year????

5) Legend by Marie Lu

I bought this entire series while I was reading The Young Elites by Maire Lu. I have only read that first book in the TYE series by Marie Lu (I’m working on the second book, I swear) but I can say for sure that I think I’m gonna love anything she writes. I just loved the writing, I mean the story was great too. BUT THE WRITING!!!!

Also, this book has been renewed for a movie! I think they were making it but then dropped the project but now another company has picked it up! I’m gonna try to read the series before the movie is released.

4) Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I feel shame with this one mainly because it was one of the firs hardcovers I had ever bought (’cause they are expensive and so I’d been limited to only buying paperbacks). And the fact that this book is kinda hyped too?? I’m still excited about it, I just haven’t gotten round to it?? Nor have I made plans to read it soon?? Triple Shame!

3) An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson

I had to buy this one for it’s cover alone, I mean HELLO! Look at those pretty birdies!        The shame for this one is actually really high. I love fae books, as most people do, and I was looking for one on my shelf and instead ended up reading a bunch of contemporary?? Plus this one has art!!! There were a lot of reviews for this book in which people say they were disappointed, BUUUT a lot of people are reading it now and say it’s amazing. So, I’m gonna ignore the reviews and just fly into I think?

2) Warcross by Marie Lu

As I said before, I love Marie Lu’s writing and will most likely love all of it. *tears begin to fall* But I bought this book when it came out and I still haven’t read it. I say I’m a fan but am I really??? *whispers* My TBR is too powerful now. We must evacuate the planet!

1) The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

This one isn’t so much shame (but it kinda is) as it is longing. I feel like I need this book in my life??? But I’ve seen people suffering, saying they are dying and need the next book. Since I am un-blighted by this plague of need I’m going to try to hold out until I have The Wicked King in my collection. Key Word: Try. This is a smart tactic. It will ensure my survival I’m sure.

  1. I also haven’t read The Cruel Prince, and it’s been bothering me crazy… 🙂 It seems that all of my friends have read it, and I’m the only who hasn’t. I guess it’s nice to see a fellow book blogger that HASN’T read it. It makes me feel better about reading it.

    1. I feel like that too!! It’s like everyone knows this one big secret and we just kinda sit here giggling awkwardly because we have no idea what’s going on!! We’ll both get to it soon I’m sure…. when we are closer to the release date of the second book. We’re the smart ones here!! XD

  2. I have so many books just like this. I’m the worst about buying books and then letting them sit forever because I feel more compelled to read library books since they have a due date. Thanks for sharing your list!

    1. Holy guacamole!! I struggle with just the books I buy!! I’m kinda glad I don’t have a library anywhere near by…. I would most likely pass out from the responsibility and stress of it all ; _ ; But I also wish I had all the books at my fingertips. Thanks for reading!!! 😀

  3. The only one I’ve read is Warcross and I liked it, but I totally get this. I have so many books I HAD to have and they are on the shelf, unread. It’s a problem.

The Cruel Prince I do want to read.

Love the Home alone GIF by the way. I always wanted that house 🙂

    1. I’m glad you liked Warcross!! I’m going to try to read it before Wildcard comes out… so I have SOME time…. but not a lot.
      Right?!? At the time I was all, “I have to have this book immediately! I will devour it and screech with my fellow readers!” ….. Except they still have yet to be read. ; _ ;

Me too! But I feel like if I lived there, it would be Christmas everyday. I can’t see that house being a normal house. It’s a Christmas house XD

  4. Okay so not to one up your shame but I feel like I have a list of books that I’ve been dying to read and haven’t even bought yet. Like Summer of Salt was my most anticipated book of the year and I haven’t even bought it yet? So just having those books on your shelf is a major accomplishment. 😂 I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone a long time ago and it was so incredibly magical I should pick it up again! You have a few books here that are on my tbr, but I still haven’t bought them yet!!! Ah! It’s tough when there’s so much you want to read but so little time! It’s kind of a game of priorities, which sometimes means reading books you want to read instead of reading books everyone else wants you to read.

    1. I know exactly what you mean! We have 2 TBRs!! One on our shelves and one yet to be collected! OOooo! I like magical books! I really want to pick up DoSaB, just gonna have to … squeeze it into my reading somehow…. I want to read so many books right now, I’m going crazy!!
I think literally every book on my shelf, I bought it and was all “THIS WILL BE MY NEXT READ!! AS SOON AS IT ARRIVES!!! I’M READING IT!!!” ….. but then I don’t read it when it arrives???
YES! I see this game of priorities! There are the obvious hyped books that everyone loves and you want to read, but what about that new book you’ve just bought that’s not being hyped???
‘Tis a battle ground, being a reader XD
